Why Alchemy Accompanied

If you're looking for a plan that will sit on a shelf, we're probably not the firm for you.

Alchemy Accompanied is an Appalachian consulting firm specializing in rural community and economic development, community-based planning, program design and evaluation, organizational coaching, grant development, and capital stacking strategy.

We work with communities, organizations, and small businesses that aren't interested in simply producing another report. They're interested in doing something with it.

Our approach is rooted in accompaniment: walking alongside the people who are most connected to the work rather than arriving with a predetermined solution. We believe the best ideas don't always come from consultants, and the most important data isn't always found in a spreadsheet. The people who live, work, build businesses, raise families, and lead organizations in a community have knowledge that can't be captured through quantitative data alone.

That's why our work starts with listening.

We help communities engage the people they serve in identifying ideas, understanding challenges, recognizing existing assets, and prioritizing what matters most. We bring data and technical expertise to the table, but we don't use data to tell a community what it should want. Instead, we bring quantitative information together with lived experience, local knowledge, and community priorities to understand what a community wants, what it sees as possible, and what it will take to get there.

And then we help build the pathway.

That might mean developing a community or economic development plan that becomes a roadmap for action. It might mean designing or evaluating a program to determine whether it's actually achieving the outcomes it was intended to achieve. It might mean coaching a leadership team, developing a grant strategy, or helping an organization combine philanthropic, public, private, and debt financing through capital stacking to make an idea financially viable.

We don't believe communities need another plan. We believe they need a process that helps them move from ideas to priorities, priorities to strategy, and strategy to action.
